Paris Saint-Germain Overcomes Olympique de Marseille on Penalties to Secure French Super Cup in the Middle East.

Trophy celebration scene

PSG has now secured the season-opening trophy on fourteen different times.

Paris Saint-Germain needed a dramatic leveler followed by a successful penalty shootout to get past their arch-rivals in Kuwait and capture a record-extending fourth consecutive French Super Cup title.

The European champions appeared to be coasting towards a comfortable win in the showdown between the French league champions and the Coupe de France holders after the French winger opened the net in the opening stages.

Yet, the southern French side struck two times in the closing moments to seize a shock lead. Initially, Mason Greenwood converted from the spot-kick, before Willian Pacho unfortunately directed the ball into his own net for an own goal.

In a breathtaking turn of events, the Portuguese striker grabbed a vital equaliser in the dying moments to send the contest into a penalty shootout. The Parisian shot-stopper Chevalier then emerged as the key figure, stopping crucial attempts from O'Riley and Traore.

From the spot, Ramos, Vitinha, Nuno Mendes, and the young talent all converted successfully for Paris Saint-Germain to complete a 4-1 penalty win.

Now 14-time champions PSG, who faced last season's Ligue 1 second-placed team Marseille after achieving a league and cup double, have now won this competition for the twelfth time in the past thirteen years.
